There are approximately 4 million students enrolled in schools in Taiwan each year, including about 2.3 million primary and secondary school students. For the entirety of their educational journey, each student will own at least 48 sets of uniforms. If we further divide these into tops, bottoms, and outerwear, the number would exceed
100 pieces.
If these millions of uniforms produced annually are not part of a recycling mechanism for reuse and reproduction, they will undoubtedly impose a heavy burden on the environment. As a result, FORESTABLE Co., Ltd. was established in 2021 to advocate for sustainable consumption awareness and to seek cooperation in establishing a recycling system and developing recycling technologies, aiming to further implement the "Circular Uniform"
action plan. S.LEISURE is an eco-friendly fabric made from 100% recycled coffee grounds and PET bottles. On top of achieving this breakthrough, sustainable circular clothing covers three key aspects. The first aspect is the selection of fabric sources for each traditional cotton-made shirt to save a significant amount of water resources, reduce carbon footprint, and ensure recyclability for remanufacturing. The second aspect is establishing a traceable and monitorable recycling system for old uniforms to create a closed loop recycling system. The third aspect is enhancing recycling technologies, such as dissolving and remanufacturing granules, yarn spinning, and fabric weaving.
FORESTABLE Co., Ltd. has signed memorandums of cooperation with 15 units, including the Hualien Branch of the Forestry and Nature Conservation, Taipei Yongchun High School, Taipei Jiancheng Junior High School, and
Yueling Elementary and Junior High School in Yilan County, to recycle old uniforms and remanufacture them into new uniforms.
