Inspiring Influential Leaders:
An Impactful Fireside Chat about the Sustainable Future
Lighting the Torch of Sustainability: "THE GREEN BOOK: a guide to Taiwan's green actions and solutions" is a citizen-co-created action project aimed at linking various partners and establishing an upstream-downstream ecosystem in Taiwan. On the evening of July 26 (Friday), the execution committee of THE GREEN BOOK project (TGB) held the inaugural "Fireside Chats" at "Not Just Library" in Songshan Cultural and Creative Park. The event gathered 30 teams selected from the first "THE GREEN BOOK" initiative, alongside representatives from industry, government, and academia, co-editors, review committee members from diverse fields, and key partners such as the Taiwan Design Research Institute and Business Weekly Group. The TGB initiative ensures that the journey towards sustainability is not a solitary endeavor but a collaborative effort to create maximum value through united action and shared wisdom.
THE GREEN BOOK: A Citizen-Co-Created Action
A Guide from Taiwan to the World and Future Generations
At the end of 2023, a citizen-co-created action led to the creation of Taiwan's first "THE GREEN BOOK," introducing 30 innovative, promising, and future-changing sustainability solutions, actions, and business models to the public for the first time. David Lo, CEO of Goodpoint Exchange and initiator of the TGB project, presented that "THE GREEN BOOK is not merely a selection and award; it is envisioned as a symbiotic platform for a guide of sustainable actions and solutions from this generation to the next in Taiwan." The inaugural Fireside Chats offered insights into the TGB project's origins and collaborative process, outlined its future development, and through cross-disciplinary dialogue, paved a new path for sustainability, impacting a group of influential individuals.
The event began with a keynote by Oliver Lin, Acting President of the Taiwan Design Research Institute (TDRI), and an introduction by Raime Chu, former General Manager of Business Weekly Group. The panel featured Henry Chi, Director of the Chi Po-Lin Foundation; Janet Huang, Editor-in-Chief of Contemporary Law; and Vivian Wu, TDRI's head of Industry foresight team, who participated in a cross-disciplinary dialogue. Raime Chu highlighted Taiwan's extensive talent and industrial strengths as crucial assets for advancing a sustainable economy. He encouraged the business sector to embrace sustainability practices, emphasizing that not only enhance performance but also contribute to societal and environmental progress.
Building a Green EcoSystem: Pioneering New Paths for a Sustainable Future
During the Fireside Chats, the TGB project not only focused on building a Green EcoSystem but also introduced the "THE GREEN BOOK 2030 Project," a practical strategic pathway for a sustainable future. The launch featured three innovative business strategy frameworks: TGB Green VISA, TGB Green Chat, and TGB Green Cycle Bank, inviting various sectors to share and co-create.
TGB Green VISA concept aims to certify businesses committed to sustainability. Gina Tsai, Chief of Planning for the Executive Committee and Chairman of the "Creative Tourism and Community Design Association in Taiwan," emphasized that the Green VISA enhances brand reputation, verifies sustainability contributions, and reduces matchmaking costs, while also supporting major events and sustainable tourism. The launch featured Banu Ismahasan, founder of Ismahasan Farm in Taitung, Gigi Huang, CEO of FISH BAR, and Allen Yeh, founder of Package Plus, alongside Daniel Cheng, CEO of Redefine Tourism Mixer. They explored the Green VISA’s role in promoting sustainable solutions. The initiative seeks to assist businesses and consumers in easily identifying and valuing sustainable products and services, encouraging fair pricing based on sustainability rather than cost alone.
TGB Green Chat, led by Eleanor Wu, Technology Impact Advisor of the TGB Executive Committee and former Google Sales Head, functions as an innovative platform for leveraging AI technology to drive sustainable impact. A vision where, by 2025, the TGB society will be reimagined as decentralized adjudicators within the citizen-co-created project. Additionally, TGB Green Cycle Bank, noted by Vivian Wu, Special Advisor for TGB and Head of Industry Foresight at TDRI, focuses on treating the environment as a public asset. It emphasizes sustainable design and circular strategies to foster innovative business approaches with a closed-loop economy perspective.
TGB Youth Leaders Explore Sustainability Issues from Diverse Perspectives
As a citizen co-created social initiative, TGB emphasizes sustaining the practice of collective intelligence. Unlike mainstream media events, this gathering brought together high school and university youth leaders as journalists, conducting in-depth interviews and live reports. These efforts enrich the TGB projects with diverse perspectives. By providing youth with practical interview opportunities, TGB aims to inspire broader exploration of Taiwan’s sustainable solutions. This initiative covers "sustainability, locality, innovation, business viability, digitalization, and replicability," driving impactful innovation and paving the way for the emergence of pioneering leaders in green transformation.
