IMPLEMENTING WASTE REDUCTION AND CONSTRUCTING A CIRCULAR MECHANISM FOR CARPETS

Semiflor Zero Waste - Cradle to Cradle Certified Carpet
As the carpet distributor in Taiwan for U.S.-based ShawContract, Semiflor emphasizes health and sustainability. It has introduced ShawContract's EcoWorx nylon carpets, which do not contain polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and are designed based on the "Cradle to Cradle" principle since 1999, as well as participates in the global carpet recycling program re[TURN]™. This initiative ensures that every used carpet becomes the raw material for the next carpet of equivalent quality. Under the Cradle to Cradle Certified Version 4.0 standards, all of ShawContract carpets follow five sustainability goals throughout its research and development, design, production, and sales stages:
1. Carpet materials meet safety and health standards.
2. Promote the re[TURN]™ program for free recycling of EcoWorx carpets, ensuring 100% recycling.
3. Renewable energy is used throughout the carpet production process, actively achieving carbon
neutrality.
4. Focus on water and soil pollution issues, treat water and soil as precious resources.
5. Adhere to fair labor and human rights principles, ensuring employee rights according to high standards.
The re[TURN]™ program offers free recycling of every sold carpet. The materials are then reused for new carpet
production. Even transportation from Taiwan to the recycling facility in Georgia, USA, incurs no charges. Over
the past 18 years, over 1 billion pounds of carpet has been recycled globally under this program, becoming
a circular economy business model for environmental sustainability benefits.
1.Each ShawContract carpet can be disassembled into yarns, backing materials, and shredded pieces, which are then reused for the production of new carpets.
2.In addition to providing customers with free carpet recycling, Semiflor also implements the carbon-neutral carpet project, complying with Taiwan’s Green Building Material label to provide carpets certified by domestic and global environmental building materials certifications.
